Laura Howes is director of Bass Connections and the Rubenstein Fellows Academy at Duke University. Bass Connections is a program in which interdisciplinary teams of graduate and undergraduate students collaborate with faculty on cutting-edge research that spans subjects, demographic groups and borders in order to bridge the classroom and the real world. The Rubenstein Fellows Academy is a university-wide initiative to bring top thought leaders to Duke to share insight and spark discussion on current and future global challenges.

Before coming to Duke, Howes was director of finance and development at the James B. Hunt Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy. Prior to that, she served as senior program manager at the Partnership for Public Service in Washington, D.C., where she designed and managed leadership development and cultural change initiatives for federal agencies. She has a bachelor of arts in public policy analysis and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.
